A Great Birthday

I had a wonderful birthday: lots of wishes all over the 'net; clothes; art books; novels; and much more.

A further birthday gift: Anji is showcasing me, my art, and my upcoming show on her blog. Check out the interview!

Thanks SO much, Anji. It's very sweet for you to give me some of your blog space!

Oh! And I received news the other day that I have sold 2 more canvases and several prints! Whoot Hoot!

Change of Plans + more

Great...I just wrote this long post and lost it all.

So now I have to start over, but I'm in a rush to get out the door.
So shorter version:
Birthday celebration has been moved to tonight. Though my provision, it must be worked around Survivor, my favorite show.

Yesterday I scored 3 pristine hardcover books by Nick Bantock: the Griffin & Sabine trilogy. Bantock is one of my fav artists, so I was thrilled. They're as good as new. They normally sell for $18 each. I got mine for $3.50 each.

Ok, the longer version was more interesting. Sorry!

Art Show Update

Hope those who can will attend my art show at Skeins, downtown Juneau in the Senate Building on Friday, March 6, from 430-730 pm.
I do have some new works. I want to post them here, but they're big. Today they will start going to the printers, who will scan them in sections, and then "seam" them on their computer. Later in the week I will buy a "jump drive," and then they will put the images on that, and then I can upload them to my computer. Everything is such a process!
I am not sure if I will have prints made of the new pieces right away.

Tomorrow I will be another year older, another year wiser. So today I am kind of treating myself. I am going to browse the used book store, and then I am going to JoAnn's to see if I can find some art supply goodies (I'm sure I can!), and then I am having lunch with a friend.
Tomorrow I will go out to lunch with my oldest son.
I am actually not "celebrating" my birthday 'til Friday night. I am not sure what celebrating means other than that is when I will open my presents. I have a bunch of them from my mom and my sister. They are almost too pretty to open. But I will force myself!

friday

i'm blogging just because it's been awhile since i've done so, and i did try to commit to blogging almost everyday this year.
nothing exciting here. i try to stay away from negative things--for the most part--here, but i have a couple of chronic conditions that have been giving me a hard time this week. consequently, i'm just "off."
and in that, i've lost my art mojo. i haven't liked anything i've done this week. not to be weird, but when i'm working on something, i kinda need it to "speak" to me, and from that i can usually bring a piece together. this week, nothing's speaking to me, and as a result, i've just not been happy with any of my art efforts.
meanwhile, the art show is looming. well, at least i have my art there all the time, and they do have a supply of canvases from me. that's good, because at the rate i'm going (unless things hopefully change), i won't be bringing much more to the show. i have completed one piece that i like. i finished it last week, before the slump hit.
today is a dear friend's birthday. and i feel bad i didn't have her gift ready.
gosh, can't i write anything positive???
oh i know! it's kinda warm today for february, and it's light outside (as opposed to dark, heavy clouds).

While I Was Sleeping....

...my husband went to the store. I woke up to find a gorgeous bouquet of roses and other flowers that he arranged; one of my all-time favorite cards from him (and that's saying a lot: he's always been a good card selector); and a little chocolate heart=shaped cake that has "I love you" iced on top of the chocolate frosting.
He also emptied the dishwasher and prepped the coffee so I could wake up to a care-free morning.
Now how sweet is all that?
I have to say, he's not getting as good as he gave this year!

later...
oh gosh, it got better. around noon he gave me a truffle on a lollipop stick. truffles are my fav. and then later he gave me a pair of diamond earrings that i've had on my amazon wish list for about 2.5 years! made me cry!
i'm not much of a jewelry person, but i really wanted these to wear every day (diamonds go with everything), so i'm very, very happy.

and now he's making lunch.
it's a good day!

avalanche

Check out this avalanche that occurred downtown. It's not in the heart of downtown Juneau; it's a road on the south side of town. (I believe it's south--I'm not good with geography!)

Let's Get Whimsical

Here are 3 whimsy girls I made for a hand-drawn ATC (artist trading card) swap. Whimsy girls are the only thing I can draw!

Bird Postcard

I started off making this postcard for a wings-themed postcard challenge. How it came out isn't close to how it began. First, I'd torn a 3rd of that floral paper off to use on the bottom of the pc. Once I changed my mind about size + placement, I had to glue it back together very carefully so it could sit where it now is. I had put transparency butterfly wings coming off the egg. I decided I didn't like them, so I carefully removed them. But of course they left some black marks on the floral paper, which I removed with the help of 2 different types of erasers plus sandpaper. I had also put that little bird that's in the bottom right corner across the bottom of the egg. I didn't like it, so I also had to carefully remove it. It did leave some white torn paper marks on the egg, which I covered with the big bird.
So this is my salvage :)

Just 'cos

I'm blogging today just because it's been a while. Sometimes there isn't much to say, which I've said before, heehee. It's not that I'm not busy. We're all busy: Eldest son, Richard working for the state and settling into his first apt without a roomate. Youngest son working, attending rehearsals for Puppet Play which opens soon at Perseverance Theatre's 2nd stage (it is not an appopriate play for kids, btw!), and hanging out with his girlfriend. Daughter attending school and preparing for a fundraiser (rolling my eyes) at her school Fri night wherein they're serving dinner, the kids will sing, and then there will be a dessert auction. Husband busy working, attending weekly meetings for an upcoming retreat, attending weekly rehearsals for the group he sings for, and--this is kinda weird--but he's become like the local funeral singer. He's sung at 4 in the past few weeks, and he rec'd a call asking him to sing at another one this Friday. I would prefer he becomes the local wedding singer, if that's how all this is going to turn out.
Me, I'm behind on everything: online things, art things, getting paperwork ready for taxes. I could go on and on. I can't keep up, and I don't really even try anymore. I just try to pick what's most important for the day and focus on that, and whenever those things are done, I nap!

Okay, I'm still waiting for my copy of Artful Blogging (grrr).
I did get all my love-themed art (canvases, prints, and altered domino keychains) into Skeins. My husband (my agent: 007) took a load into the store on Sunday and then dropped off the rest yesterday afternoon--and yesterday evening the 1st canvas already sold! That was encouraging.

I need to get started on the upcoming art show, but I'm waiting for my packages of canvases to arrive. Should be here soon. And, Jenyfer, you'll be happy to know that I'm going larger :)

And that's all I know!
